"Carnival" by Nolcha Fox

The magic mirrors

distort her mind

as she follows

the words in her head

to the merry-go-

round where horses

race silently to nowhere

in the frosted Christmas

cake morning.

Her smile freezes

and shatters

in the photo booth.

Frozen things

break more easily.
