"The Gunks" by Ivor Daniel

On the Shawangunk Mountains

behind the Correctional Facility,

I trip on boulders I cannot see

in low luxurious slanting sunlight.

Bruise-kneed, again

and again I get back up,

giddy on freedom

and the tinsel dazzle

of New Year’s sunbeams.

Ivor Daniel lives in Gloucestershire, UK. His poems have appeared in iamb, Fevers of the Mind, Roi Fainéant, Ice Floe Press, The Dawntreader, After..., Alien Buddha, TopTweetTuesday, Black Nore Review, Lit.202, and elsewhere.
